Informal dispersed camping area in the dunes of Oceano (SVRA), near Pismo Beach, named after the shell mounds left by the Chumash, who occupied this coast for millennia. Free camping right on the sand like elsewhere in this off-road driving area; chemical toilets available in the sector. Archaeologically significant area, to be treated with respect.
