Description
Vast valley of dispersed camping between Granite Mountain and Whale Peak, accessible via S-2 road and then a dirt road. You choose your own spot -- sites near the entrance fill up quickly on weekends, but more secluded spots can be found deeper in the valley. Only pit toilet, no drinking water or waste collection. Starting point for the Pictographs Trail (Kumeyaay rock paintings) and the Marshal South Home Trail, which climbs to Ghost Mountain to the remains of the Yaquitepec homestead (inhabited 1932-1947). Free.
