Amenities
Location Map
Description
Mineral Point Road (BLM 340) is a free boondocking camping area located west of Moab, Utah, on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The dispersed camping sites extend on either side of a graded dirt road, on a plateau of pinyon pines and junipers offering wide panoramas and exceptional starry skies.
No designated sites exist: they are identified by the stone circles left by previous campers. There is no water, no toilets, and no trash disposal, and the stay is limited to 14 days within a 28-day period. Therefore, one must be fully self-sufficient and pack out all waste. The road is passable for most vehicles near the entrance but becomes sandy and rocky further in.
This boondocking area serves as an ideal base camp for visiting Canyonlands National Park (Island in the Sky section, about 10 minutes away) and Dead Horse Point State Park (about 15 minutes away). From Moab, take Highway 191 north for about 11 miles, then Highway 313 west for about 12 miles, passing the paid camping area Horsethief.
