Un lac turquoise entouré de volcans actifs, au cœur d'un territoire giboyeux qui alimente les pêcheries de saumon de la baie de Bristol. Le hameau de Port Alsworth, à l'intérieur du parc, abrite le centre d'accueil et la cabane historique de Dick Proenneke. Aucune route ne mène au parc : l'accès se fait uniquement par avion-taxi, hydravion ou bateau ; le camping sauvage y est permis.
