🏛️ Municipal Regulations — RV Parking in Canmore
Verified on 16/08/2026
Canmore's traffic bylaw bans parking or standing a recreational vehicle, trailer, or camper on the public road between 10pm and 8am for the purpose of sleeping there, under penalty of a $100 fine (sec. 42.2, added in 2024). A separate rule also caps all RV parking outside a campground at a maximum of 36 consecutive hours, only in the stretch of street next to the owner's home ($90 fine, reduced to $45 if paid within 7 days). The Town sums it up plainly on its official site: overnight camping isn't allowed within Canmore, and unpermitted vehicles get ticketed. A paid alternative exists for people who work in town (the Safe Park program). Between hikes in the Rockies, a savvy camper always takes the time to check where they're allowed to spend the night.
