🏛️ Municipal Regulations — RV Parking in St. John's

Verified on 17/08/2026

St. John's, the provincial capital and one of only 3 "Cities" (rather than "Towns") in the province, is governed by its own distinct enabling legislation. Camping is explicitly banned in all of the City's parks (Bowring Park, Bannerman Park, Victoria Park, Quidi Vidi Lake...), without the director's permission, with parks closing at 11pm. A winter curfew applies every year (roughly January through April) across all streets to allow snow removal: 12:30am to 7:30am outside downtown, and 4am to 6am on Water and Duckworth streets downtown, every day ($75 fine) -- a rule that applies to all vehicles, not just RVs, and doesn't apply the rest of the year. No bylaw found specifically bans overnight parking of a recreational vehicle on an ordinary residential street outside that winter period. In the oldest city in North America, RV camping also comes with its own precise rules. (Source: City of St. John's, Parks By-Law No. 1488)
