Description
The VFW Recreation Area is a public and rustic campground managed by the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) in partnership with the municipality. Located at about 3,000 feet in elevation, it stretches along the east shore of Lake Elwell (Tiber Reservoir), approximately 21 km southwest of Chester. This waterfront site is popular for boating and fishing due to its direct access to the lake.
Camping is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservation options. It offers a grassy area suitable for tents, trailers, and recreational vehicles (RVs). The maximum stay duration is 14 consecutive days, and the site is accessible year-round.
No hookup amenities (water, electricity, sewage) are available, and it is important to bring your own drinking water, as there is no water source on site. There are vault toilets available, but no showers. The park also includes 4 picnic shelters, individual fire rings, and trash bins. Dogs are allowed on a leash.
